We have a large population of movie buffs here in the Rocket City, and an active movement has been a foot for some time now to establish an independent theater in town. Well, those efforts are paying off.

The Independent will soon make its home at Lowe Mill, showing indie films of multiple genres. Here’s what to know:

The Independent to move into Lowe Mill

The Independent, up until now, has had its showings at Mad Malts Brewing, and will continue to do so until the Lowe Mill spot can be renovated.

When the studio at Lowe Mill is ready, The Independent will host local filmmaker showcases and after-hours events like movie marathons and midnight features. But that’s not all.

The theater aims to be a place where folks can show up after work and catch a cool indie film, or even (as the official statement from the organization says) “bring your lunch or grab a drink from our selection of beer and wine and watch a flick in a hip atmosphere with chill vibes.”

The Independent is still raising funds to renovate the space at Studio 150 at Lowe Mill. You can contribute to that effort here.
