The Sandra Moon Community Complex officially opened its doors today at a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Mayor Tommy Battle. Sitting in the old Grissom High School, the community has been desperate to know what would come of this iconic building.
The new complex features fun for the entire community, no matter the interests or the age. With a 600-seat theater, an indoor pickleball court and a multimedia center, there is a lot to unpack about what this building will offer to the Huntsville community.

Who is Sandra Moon?

In case you didn’t know, Sandra Moon was a Huntsville native that became the city’s second female city council member and eventually first female city council president. According to Mayor Tommy Battle, Sandra was a woman of “great conviction and an outstanding public servant.” She cared deeply about ensuring Huntsville was a better place for those who came after her.
This complex honors the legacy of Sandra Moon by creating a space people of all ages can come together to enjoy. Each room was intentionally put together with the interest of the entire community in mind, something Sandra Moon was very passionate about.
