A new addition to the Huntsville coffee scene has arrived, and it’s a true hidden gem. It’s called Kape Tayo, and it’s a Filipino coffee shop that opened in Huntsville six weeks ago but celebrated its grand opening on Dec. 14.

The new coffee spot sells a variety of drinks including Filipino, Thai and Vietnamese coffees.

What makes Kape Tayo coffee special?

“Kape tayo” translates to “let’s have coffee,” which is why you’ll see the word “kape” on the menu so much.

Their menu includes a variety of speciality drinks including the purple Iced Ube Kape–which is their best seller. The beverage is made from Italian espresso, whole milk, half-and-half and ube–a sweet purple yam from the Philippines. The yam has a nutty, vanilla taste and is often used in Filipino dessert recipes.
