Town Madison is getting a new fire and police station
A new fire station and police substation are coming to Town Madison, as the area continues to experience rapid growth.
This will be the fourth fire station in Madison, and the first police substation. Here’s what we know:
New facilities for Town Madison
Madison Mayor Paul Finley said the new facility will cost approximately $7 million, and the funding comes from Pres. Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Here are some details on the new facility:
- The new facility will be located at what is currently an office building at 23 Ludie Richard Drive.
- The 38,000-square-foot facility will house both the fire station and the police substation.
- The new substation will help the response times in South Madison decrease to approximately two minutes.
- Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months, with the police substation opening first.
“This is going to give us a more efficient, more effective ability to manage the growing area that is the south portion of the Town Madison area. It’ll take about 18 months to complete, but in the end, we’ll have a complete public safety facility over in Town Madison.”
Mayor Paul Finley
New facility for more people
The growth in population in Madison has made new safety facilities and municipal services expansion a must. The city has grown from a population of around 43,000 in 2010 to more than 60,000 in 2023.
“It’s so important for us to have a station that’s co-located next to all this population of occupancies that are popping up here. You know the hundreds of apartments and homes popping up here in Town Madison.”
