Of the 18 new building permits issued this past week statewide for construction projects exceeding $1 million, six are for projects in the Huntsville metro.

One of these permits is for an addition to Toyota Field to comply with major League Baseball guidelines for minor league stadiums.

A $7.5 million permit was issued to Caliber 1 Construction for the renovations to Toyota Field.

The renovations come after a mandate by the MLB that requires all minor league teams to have facilities for male and female coaches and umpires. All but two of the current 120 minor league stadiums across the country had to make renovations by the end of the 2025 season, including Toyota Field.

This option was one of several renovation options presented to the Madison City Council. On the lower level, approximately 8,200 square feet will house a new visiting team locker room, a training room, laundry facilities, a commissary, bullpen restrooms and administrative offices.

The upper level will feature a 7,400-square-foot open-air concourse designed to improve crowd flow and enhance the fan experience.

The renovations will be completed before the 2026 season.
