Not only did the Rocket City Trash Pandas enjoy a successful season on the field — winning more games than any other team in the Southern League — but they also finished the 2022 season with the highest attendance in the league.
The Trash Pandas drew 327,007 fans to Toyota Field this season, averaging 5,031 fans per game.

Minor League Baseball attendance as a whole this season was up from 2021 — which was no surprise since most stadiums eased COVID restrictions from 2021 to 2022. Ballpark Digest published its final attendance numbers for 120 minor league teams, and our Trash Pandas finished 33rd.
This is pretty impressive considering that many of the teams ahead of the Trash Pandas in attendance are in much larger markets (Columbus, Nashville, Indianapolis, Dayton, Charlotte and Las Vegas among others).
The Tennessee Smokies (who ended the Trash Pandas’ season in the first round of the playoffs) were second in attendance in the Southern League, averaging 4,328 fans per game.
The Birmingham Barons were ranked 67th in all of MiLB, averaging 3,925 fans per game, and the Montgomery Biscuits ranked 111th with an average of 2,522 fans per game.
Looking forward
The Trash Pandas’ 2023 season begins Thursday, April 6, 2023 against the Chattanooga Lookouts at Toyota Field.
