U.S. Space Camp opens new Operations Center

The entrance to Space Camp, located at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, looks a little different now, as the new Operations Center opened on its campus officially Friday morning.

The new center will become a hub for Space Camp activities, including check-in, graduations and classroom space for extended educational areas. 

About the new Space Camp Operations Center

The Operations Center is the first new building added to the campus since 2008. Here are a few of the features of the new 40,000-square-foot Operations Center:

  • A multi-purpose auditorium that is one of the largest in North Alabama
  • 2 collaboration areas
  • 6 new check-in spaces
  • A new U.S. Cyber Camp Mission Control area, where program attendees will deep dive into their mission completion simulations
  • 10 new classroom spaces
  • In addition to providing a new and diverse space for program trainees, the 40,600 square foot building will also house a state of the art meeting center that can be rented out by the public.

Space Camp’s continued legacy

Since its opening in 1982, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Space Camp programs have graduated more than 1 million participants from nearly 150 countries.

Programs emphasize real-world application of STEM subjects, as well as teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Current programs include Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, Robotics and US Cyber ​​Camp.
