UAH + AAMU — basketball schedules for 2 of Huntsville's local programs now out

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been waiting all summer to watch some good college basketball again — and lucky for us, we don’t have to travel far to find it.

Huntsville is home to three universities with basketball teams: the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), Alabama A&M (AAMU) and Oakwood University.

Oakwood hasn’t announced their upcoming schedules yet, but the 2026-27 slates for UAH and AAMU have already been released.

Men’s basketball

UAH’s men’s basketball finished the 2025-26 season with a 23-10 record, going a very respectable 15-7 in conference play. They are going into the new season with nine returning players.

Women’s basketball

UAH’s women’s basketball team had a historically great record during the 2025-26 season, finishing 32-6 with a dominant 21-1 record within the conference. Last season, they averaged an incredible 75.1 points per game (PPG).

Alabama A&M

Men’s basketball

Donte' Jackson — In 2025, Alabama A&M has hired Donte’ Jackson as its new basketball coach. (AAMU)

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs finished the 2025-26 season with a respectable 18-15 record, going 10-8 in conference play. They averaged six steals a game and 13 points scored off turnovers, so they will be looking to continue their disruptive defense into the new year.

Women’s basketball

AAMU’s women’s basketball team finished 2025-26 with a 22-11 record, but that doesn’t really show how great of a season they had. In conference play, they went an outstanding 17-2, which was better than any other team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
