The University of Alabama in Huntsville has received several pieces of good news lately (see this Hville Blast post on the new engineering building), and received more this week in the form of a $1.5 million check from Bryant Bank.

Bryant Bank issued the funds to the UAH College of Business, one of the largest gifts ever made to the COB.

Where the funds will go and who they will help

bryant million commitment
Annual distributions from the fund shall be used for one or more scholarships awarded to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the College of Business. (Michael Mercier/UAH).

According to UAH officials, an initial disbursement of $100,000 will be followed by 14 annual payments in the same amount through 2035. This pledge will go to benefit business students at the University by establishing a non-endowed scholarship fund to the College to be called the Bryant Bank UAH Business Scholarships.

Annual distributions from the fund shall be used for one or more scholarships awarded to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the College of Business. Entering freshman students must have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

Students will receive awards of $2,500, $5,000 or $7,500, and the larger of these awards shall be given to students with a greater need and who are receiving less financial support from other UAH scholarships or grants. Scholarship award recipients shall be selected by the University’s Financial Aid Committee.

Existing or transfer students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for college-level coursework. Preference shall be given to students based on each of the following:

  • Students with unmet financial need
  • Students who are from Alabama communities served by Bryant Bank
  • Students who are graduates of the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering

This recent donation is not the first time the Tuscaloosa-based Bryant Bank has given a sizable sum to UAH.

Bryant Bank’s contributions to UAH include the establishment of the Bryant Bank UAH Excellence in Nursing Scholarship, and the bank recently made a gift of $25,000 to UAH Charger Athletics, a commitment that will go to support 14 Men’s and Women’s athletics programs.

“We are grateful to Bryant Bank’s impact, not only on our college, but throughout our university. To have such generous support for the College of Business, the College of Nursing and athletics demonstrates Bryant Bank’s commitment to the health, prosperity and welfare of our university and our community.”

Dr. Jason Greene, Dean of the UAH College of Business
