The community answered the call and helped Huntsville Animal Services find new homes for their dogs (Hville Blast)

Last week, we reported that Huntsville Animal Services reached crisis level four after 65 medium-sized dogs were rescued from a single location, and that the shelter needed serious assistance in dealing with the situation.

Since then, the community answered the call! According to the Huntsville Animal Services Instagram, there are only six dogs still available for adoption (not including dogs on stray hold or that are sick and receiving care).

This tremendous feat would not have been possible without the help of community members such as yourself, who took it upon themselves to adopt or foster these animals, as well as sharing the news of what was going on.

We’d also love to give a huge shoutout to our friends working/volunteering at the Huntsville Animal Services shelter, who tirelessly took care of these animals despite being stretched past capacity!

How you can still help

If you still feel the urge to help, you can always volunteer at the shelter! You can find all their contact information on their website.

We would also like to remind you of the various foster programs offered by Huntsville Animal Services:

  • Foster-to-rehome: In this program, you will care for the animal until it’s adopted by its forever family. This is also a great opportunity for the animal to socialize outside of the shelter.
  • Foster-to-adopt: This program allows you to experience a 14-day trial period with an animal before permanent adoption. It can be thought of as a kind of “test drive”, to make sure the animal will fit well in your home.
  • Sleep-over: This new program allows you to house an animal at your home for 1-4 days. This is a great way to help Huntsville Animal Services in the short-term, without any sort of long-term commitment.
