Veterans Day is November 11, and we have multiple ways to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces here in the Huntsville area. From parades to dinners and exhibits, you can observe this important day in and around Huntsville in a variety of ways.

Here are a few options in and around Huntsville for observing Veterans Day:

Huntsville Veterans Day Parade

A fabulous Veterans Day parade takes place in Huntsville, beginning at Veterans Memorial Park. Here’s the schedule:

  • Veterans Day Breakfast: November 11, 9–10AM, at Veterans Memorial Park
    • Free for veterans + active-duty personnel; a nominal donation is requested for non-veterans
  • Pre-Parade Show: November 11, 10–11AM, at Veterans Memorial Park
  • Parade: November 11, 11:11AM, starting at Veterans Memorial Park and traveling through downtown Huntsville
  • Veterans Day Dinner: November 8, 5–9PM, at the Von Braun Civic Center

The Wall That Heals in Athens

Athens State University hosts The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center on Beasley Field (415 E Hobbs Street, Athens, AL 35611).

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund selects 35 destinations for The Wall That Heals to travel to each year, and Athens State was selected for November 6-9.

Thursday, November 6

  • Opening Ceremony at 8:30AM (Free + open to the public)
  • Guided Tours begin at 11AM
  • Taps will be played at Sunset

Friday, November 7

  • The Wall That Heals is open 24 hours a day to visitors, rain or shine
  • PTSD Awareness Ceremony at 6PM (Free + open to the public)
  • Taps will be played at the conclusion of the PTSD Awareness Ceremony

Saturday, November 8

  • The Wall That Heals is open 24 hours a day to visitors, rain or shine
  • Taps will be played at Sunset

Sunday, November 9

  • Closing Ceremony at 1:45PM (Free + open to the public)
  • Taps will be played at 2PM
  • The Wall That Heals closes to the public at 2PM

Veterans Day program in Florence

This ceremony will serve as Florence’s first official America 250 event. The city will honor local veterans and work to preserve their legacies through a group photo series by era of service for inclusion in the Veterans Memorial Museum archives.

All veterans and community members are invited to attend.

Morgan County Veterans Day Parade

On November 11, the Morgan County Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will kick off at 10AM at the corner of North Bethel Road and Greenfield Drive in Priceville.

The parade will end at the Morgan County Veterans Memorial on Alabama 67, where a ceremony will begin at 11AM.
