Vince Gill + Tattoo Expo among 15 fun events to catch in Huntsville this weekend

The weekend is almost upon us, fellow Huntsvillians! And there’s plenty to do in and around town over the next few days — including live music, comedy shows, conventions and more — both indoors and outdoors (yes, the heat will linger this weekend).

Here’s a little rundown of the happenings in the Rocket City this weekend!

Live music

Highlighted by a visit from country music favorite Vince Gill, the live music schedule in and around Huntsville is top-notch this weekend. Here are a few of those shows:

  • Rob Aldridge & the Proponents w/ Will Stewart: July 15, Gold Sprint Coffee, 7PM. Gold Sprint is a great music venue and they’re hosting Rob Aldridge, plus a special guest from Birmingham, Will Stewart.
  • Joe Cagle Band: July 16, Stovehouse, 7PM. This is going to be another fun night as the Joe Cagle Band returns to the Stovehouse!
  • The Orange Constant w/ The Talismen: July 16, Sidetracks Music Hall, 7PM. Catch Athens, Ga.- based The Orange Constant as they rock Sidetracks Music Hall.
  • Vince Gill: July 17, Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the VBC, 7:30PM. Country music legend Vince Gill comes to Huntsville for a night of incredible tunes.
  • Vina Morales: July 17, The Drama Theater, 6PM. Filipina singer, actress and model Vina Morales performs live, with her “Just Being Sweet in Alabama” show.

Sports + fitness

Although the Trash Pandas are on the road this weekend, there’s still a good amount of sports and fitness events happening in the Huntsville area. Check out these options:

  • Twilight 5K: July 16, UAH Fitness Center, 6AM. This 5K and fun run is a fundraiser for the UAH cross country and track & field teams.
  • Building Championship Culture: July 16, Campus 805, 4PM. This seminar will provide firsthand knowledge on how to prepare your student-athletes correctly to receive college scholarships.
  • Rocket City 7s Rugby Tournament: July 16, Rick Cooper Memorial Park, 8AM. Enjoy some excellent rugby competition, hosted by the Huntsville Women’s Rugby Club!
  • Learn to Curl: July 17, Huntsville Ice Sports Center, 4:30PM. Interested in learning about curling? Rocket City Curling Club instructors will teach participants how to sweep, deliver a stone and learn all about the Winter Olympics hottest sport in this 90-minute hands-on class!
  • Bollywood Workout: July 17, Southeast Family YMCA, 3PM. Check out the BollyX workout at the YMCA, free for members, guest passes can be purchased.

Comedy, expos, family outings

As always, there is plenty to check out this weekend in the way of conventions, arts and crafts, markets and family outings in Huntsville and surrounding areas. We have listed just a handful of them here:

  • Huntsvegas Tattoo Expo: July 15-17, Von Braun Center. This is the inaugural Huntsvegas Tattoo Expo and features some pretty awesome events and special guests for tattoo enthusiasts.
  • Family Campout in the Garden: July 15-16, Huntsville Botanical Garden, 5PM. Get your tents, sleeping bags and S’mores ready for a campout Friday night at the Huntsville Botanical Garden!
  • Village of Providence Artisans & Farmers Market: Juy 16, Village of Providence, 8AM. Fresh produce, artisan handmade products and more can be found at this fabulous Saturday market!
  • Dave Attell: July 17, Stand Up Live, 7PM. Laugh along with stand-up comedian, actor and writer Dave Attell Saturday night (19+ show).
  • 3rd Annual GHHS Community Day: July 17, Greater Huntsville Humane Society, 10AM. This event includes the King’s Community Kitchen Distribution Pet Wellness Clinic, Chip-a-thon, pet adoptions and more.
