Walmart Neighborhood Market on Oakwood Ave. in Huntsville is closing for good, reports say. The store, which opened 10 years ago, is set to close Dec. 20.
Here’s what to know:
Walmart Neighborhood Market closing Oakwood Ave. location
The closing of the location at 4226 NW Oakwood Ave. is part of a phase of closings and redirection nationwide for the retail giant. Of the three Walmart Neighborhood Market locations in the Huntsville area, the Oakwood Ave. location had been the lowest performing.
A news release from Walmart said no other closings are planned for the area.
“This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process. We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately, some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, this store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.”
Lindsey Coulter, Walmart Communications Director
What this means for current customers and employees
Coulter said existing customers can transfer pharmacy information to one of the remaining Neighborhood Market stores in Huntsville — on Jordan Lane and on Bailey Cove Road — and that employees of the Oakwood Ave. location are eligible to transfer to another Walmart store and will be paid through Mar. 7.
