Although you wouldn’t know it by the weather this week, we are just a couple of weeks away from Christmas, so I hope everyone has at least put a dent in their shopping and planning for the holidays!

That said, if you are looking to take a break from all of that and go out for some fun, there’s plenty to do this weekend in and around Huntsville, from North Alabama War Dawgs basketball to Huntsville Ballet’s performances of “The Nutcracker.”

There’s some fantastic local music happening this weekend, as well as some regional acts headed into town. Here are a few cool options for live music this weekend in and around Huntsville:

  • April Pendergrass: Dec. 9, Stovehouse, 6PM. Local favorite April Pendergrass plays live Stovehouse, so come see this ultra talented Huntsville musician!
  • Stolen Faces: Dec. 9, Furniture Factory, 9PM. Celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead Friday night with this Nashville-based tribute band at The Furniture Factory downtown.
  • Huntsville Community Chorus: Dec. 10, Thurber Arts Center – Randolph School, 3PM. Enjoy “Songs of the Season” this Saturday at a special concert from Huntsville Community Chorus.
  • Whiskey Myers: Dec. 10, Von Braun Center, 6:30PM. National recording artist Whiskey Myers’ tour makes a stop in Huntsville Saturday night!
  • Microwave Dave: Dec. 11, Hunphrey’s Bat & Grill, 11AM. Catch “Brunch and Blues” with local legend Microwave Dae on the patio at Humphrey’s!

  • The Nutcracker: Dec. 9-11, Von Braun Center, Fri – 7:30PM; Sat. – 2PM, 7:30PM; Sun. 1PM. The holiday season isn’t complete without seeing “The Nutcracker,” and Huntsville Ballet puts on one of the best productions anywhere!
  • Aaron Weber: Dec. 10, Stand Up Live, 6:30PM. Catch the hilarious stand up comedy of Aaron Weber at Huntsville’s Stand Up Live venue!
  • Sippin’ Cider Festival: Dec. 10, Downtowen Athens, 4PM-8PM. Sample and vote for your favorite cider among participating merchants; shop for Christmas deals; enjoy live music and other festivities!
  • Family Christmas Movie Night: Dec. 10, The Hub at College Park, 5PM. Catch a double feature of “Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer,” and “Little Drummer Boy.”
  • Hanukkah Craft Fair: Dec. 11, Temple B’nai Sholom, 12PM-4PM. For the second year in a row, Temple B’nai Sholom in downtown Huntsville is putting on a Hanukkah craft fair. Grab some gifts, something scrumptious from the bake sale and take part in the silent auction!

Basketball season is in full force now, and not only will Alabama A&M have a home game this weekend, but the North Alabama War Dawgs also play at home, so there’s plenty of hoops action to catch in the Huntsville area!

Here are some sporting events happening this weekend:

  • Alabama A&M vs. Lipscomb: Dec. 9, AAMU Event Center, 7PM. Cheer on the Bulldogs men’s basketball team in their new arena Friday night!
  • Rocket City Marathon: Dec. 10, Downtown Huntsville, 7AM. For over 40 years the Rocket City Marathon, conducted by the Huntsville Track Club, has been a premiere marathon event in the South.
  • Simply Saturday Yoga w/Mi-Thai-Mmm: Dec. 10, Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center, 12PM. All skill levels are welcome for this yoga class, where participants will go through varying styles and poses.
  • North Alabama War Dawgs vs. Clarksville Phoenix: Dec. 10, James Clemens High School, 7PM. North Alabama’s pro basketball team hosts Clarksville this Saturday night!
  • Santa Fun Run: Dec. 11, Big Spring Park, 4PM. This 2nd annual 1-mile fun run will help raise much needed funding to sustain CCYR’s Year-Round programs.
