The building that now houses Main Street Cafe used to lock up Madison’s criminals. Constructed in 1954, it originally served as Madison’s third city hall until it was used as a gift shop in the 1990s. The restaurant opened in 2000, and Tammy and John Hall purchased it in 2018, adding on a dinner service in 2019.

The former City Hall featured two jail cells and offices for the Chief of Police, Mayor and other important local figures. Today, patrons can enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the jail cells—without breaking the law.
