What is the average commute here in the Rocket City?

As the Huntsville metro continues to grow, more cars are on the road, more time is spent find a place to park and more people live further from the city center. So how has all of that affected the average Huntsville-area resident’s daily commute?
We polled readers recently, asking about their daily drive to and from work — and we looked into studies on the same topic — and this is what we found:

According to our readers, their drive to and from work is less than 30 minutes, which is great news if you consider that one of the main complaints from longtime Huntsville residents regarding the city’s rapid growth has been traffic.

But don’t just trust our poll. We looked at data from the United States Census Bureau which shows Madison County as having the shortest commute of the four major metros in Alabama.
The average commute time in Alabama is 25.3 minutes, which is slightly shorter than the U.S. average of 26.7 minutes. The average for the four major Alabama metros:
- Birmingham: 28 minutes
- Mobile: 26 minutes
- Montgomery: 23.8 minutes
- Huntsville/Madison County: 21.5 minutes
