Independence Day typically means most government offices will be closed and services will be unavailable. Here’s a rundown:
- Madison County offices (including the Madison County Courthouse)
- City of Huntsville offices
- City of Madison offices
- State of Alabama offices
- Financial institutions
- U.S. Postal Service
- University of Alabama in Huntsville
- Alabama A&M University
- Oakwood University
- Costco
What’s open + when

Most grocery stores and restaurants will be open on the 4th of July, although some of them may operate under special holiday hours. Here’s a look at the major retail outlets open on Friday:
- Academy Sports + Outdoors: Open regular hours
- Aldi: Closes at 4PM
- Best Buy: Open regular hours
- Big Lots: Open regular hours
- BJ’s Wholesale: Open regular hours
- Cabela’s: Open 9AM-7PM
- CVS: Most stores will be open regular hours. Pharmacy hours may vary by location.
