A polar vortex will move over the eastern U.S. next week, including Alabama.

Temperatures will be below freezing, and there’s a chance of snow in the forecast. Here’s everything you need to know.

According to the National Weather Service, the polar vortex pushes cold air south that’s usually concentrated around Earth’s north pole.

Make sure you’re prepared for unexpected weather. Have a NOAA weather radio and flashlights available in case you lose power. Make sure to grab groceries and pick up perceptions before the potential cold snap. If roads ice over, driving could be dangerous.

The coldest air to hit the deep South will come Monday night when high temperatures in Huntsville are expected to linger around 34 degrees. The high Tuesday is forecasted to be near 28 degrees.

A chance of snow is possible for Monday night into Tuesday, but this may change as the system develops.
