Which is the better location for spending a weekend?
Reading time: 3 minutes
Huntsville has many great places for spending a weekend. Whenever I’m asked where people from out of town should visit, my first response is always either Lowe Mill or Stovehouse. Yes, both are quite different but are also equally fun.
I’m going to be comparing these two hot tourist locations and see which one comes out on top as the better place for spending a weekend.
Lowe Mill
Here’s what Lowe Mill has going for them.
- Eats: 3/5
- Shops: 5/5
- Activities: 4/5
- Atmosphere: 3/5
- Events: 3/5
Lowe Mill has a variety of restaurants, not extensive but enough to find something everyone likes.
You can find vegan food, barbecue, pizza and Mediterranean spots at Lowe Mill, in addition to drink shops like Dragon’s Forge D+D themed coffee shop, Piper + Leaf Tea Company and Ravenwood meadery.
You can also peruse studios to buy art, jewelry, plants, gifts, cigar box guitars and records.
If you’re looking for something to do rather than something to buy, find Starlight pinball arcade, Catty Shack cat café, various art classes, pottery studios, theatre and more. Overall, Lowe Mill is a great option for spending a weekend and makes a fun time for everyone around.
Stovehouse
Let’s review what Stovehouse has going for them.
- Eats: 5/5
- Shops: 3/5
- Activities: 3/5
- Atmosphere: 4/5
- Events: 3/5
Stovehouse’s restaurants are a must-visit for locals as well as travelers, as anyone from anywhere is bound to find something they like with choices of Mexican, Greek, Asian, American and more.
There’s Charlie Foster’s coffee + wine bar as well as Pourhouse for those who are more thirsty than hungry. For your sweet tooth, you can find Oscar Moon milkshake bar and Oh Crepe! for cravings as well as a full boba menu.
For shops, Stovehouse has boutiques, gift stores and more. Although not as big of a store selection as Lowe Mill, what Stovehouse does have they stand out with.
For activities, there’s live music every weekend, trivia every Tuesday, dancing at the Electric Bell and pottery classes at the Vessel.
Comparison
Stovehouse’s strongest attribute is its cuisine, with decently fun events and a moderate selection of activities. Lowe Mill’s strongest attribute is its variety of shops, supplemented by eclectic events and decent selection of food and drink.
Overall, both have a lot to offer and make a great weekend venue with friends and family which really comes down to taste. Not to mention, both have fascinating history as Huntsville businesses turned community spaces.
Some say there can only be one winner for spending a weekend, but I think you have to call this one a tie.
