But what road projects will be in the front of the line, so to speak? Here’s what we know:
Road construction a huge part of new city budget

Mayor Battle’s proposed budget includes more than $50 million dedicated to road construction and expansion, and mentions these road projects as high priority:
- Holmes Avenue
- Old Big Cove Road
- Old Monrovia Road
- Resolute Way (I-565 to Redstone Arsenal)
- Swancott Road
- Winchester Road
More highlights of the proposed FY26 budget include:
- Renovations at Dr. Richard Showers, Sr., Recreation Center and Goldsmith-Schiffman Field
- Commercial redevelopment along Memorial Parkway North
- Phase I of North Huntsville Greenway
- Redevelopment investments for Choice Neighborhood Initiative (Mill Creek), Cummings Research Park and Ditto Landing
- 2% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for City employees
- Improvements at Huntsville Depot Park
- Expansion of Big Spring Park East
The City Council is expected to vote on the budget during their regular meeting this Thursday at 5:30PM.
