Which roads are a main priority in the new Huntsville budget?

One of the highest priorities of Mayor Tommy Battle’s budget for the new fiscal year is road construction and maintenance, which is a priority most residents here in Huntsville likely share.

But what road projects will be in the front of the line, so to speak? Here’s what we know:

Mayor Battle’s proposed budget includes more than $50 million dedicated to road construction and expansion, and mentions these road projects as high priority:

  • Holmes Avenue
  • Old Big Cove Road
  • Old Monrovia Road
  • Resolute Way  (I-565 to Redstone Arsenal)
  • Swancott Road
  • Winchester Road

More highlights of the proposed FY26 budget include:

  • Renovations at Dr. Richard Showers, Sr., Recreation Center and Goldsmith-Schiffman Field
  • Commercial redevelopment along Memorial Parkway North
  • Phase I of North Huntsville Greenway
  • Redevelopment investments for Choice Neighborhood Initiative (Mill Creek), Cummings Research Park and Ditto Landing
  • 2% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for City employees
  • Improvements at Huntsville Depot Park
  • Expansion of Big Spring Park East

The City Council is expected to vote on the budget during their regular meeting this Thursday at 5:30PM.
