Back in May, we told you about Field Day, an exciting new entertainment concept coming to Huntsville this summer.

Kids at heart, rejoice. We have now confirmed Field Day’s August opening date, more details about what you can expect, plus the exclusive scoop on why its owners, Matt and Katie Hubbard, chose Huntsville for their latest venture.

(Spoiler alert: The story involves a career in trampoline sales, global travel and a love story with family roots in the Rocket City)

Matt never imagined himself becoming an entrepreneur, but after earning his art degree, he unexpectedly found himself in the role of sales and design director at the country’s largest trampoline manufacturer, which planted the seed. He learned the ins and outs of starting a business after designing and selling trampolines for ventures all over.

His career took him around the world to over 30 countries and to hundreds of amusement centers and trampoline parks. All the while, Matt was absorbing inspiration.

“I didn’t really know I wanted to be an entrepreneur until I watched hundreds of people repeat the process of building out a business over and over again. So seeing that, along with having a lot of mentors in my industry, I began to think, ‘Oh, I can probably do this.

While traveling for work, I was always looking for something to do that was more in my taste and fun for adults. And believe it or not, the USA is not really a trendsetter when it comes to adult entertainment. Early on, Australia was building out these really cool mini golf courses, and the UK was doing something very similar to what I’m doing today. Getting to visit those places during my travels really helped with the ideation of what I wanted to do, and what I’m doing with Field Day.”

While living in Greenville, South Carolina, Matt met his wife Katie, a Huntsville native and fashion designer. When seeking their next career adventures, they considered metros across the Southeast from Jacksonville to Atlanta. Ultimately, Katie’s hometown drew the couple with its booming population and its need for some locally-owned fun in the midst of corporate businesses.

So, the fun-loving couple made the jump, and Matt found the perfect commercial space for his next dream: Field Day.

Unplug + have fun: Matt’s goals for the space

Matt has curated a space for Huntsville to connect, unplug and unwind. From the playful color palette to carefully-selected activities, it’s clear Matt has succeeded in his goal of “world-class experiential entertainment through connection.”

The space welcomes guests hosting corporate events, parties, reunions or just a casual hang.

“We just want everybody to feel belonging and connection when they visit.

I hope people think of us for a 40th birthday party or a retirement party or just a work happy hour. Maybe reality TV Mondays, where we sit and watch The Bachelor together, and then cheering on Alabama or Auburn when they take on the rest of the SEC in the fall.”
