Leah Collier is one of the coolest people I’ve met—she’s an expert at taking care of plants, cooking pasta from scratch and helping Huntsvillians beat depression.

A New England native, Leah moved to the Rocket City in 2004 and shortly after fell in love and married ‘a nice Southern boy.’

Check out why she loves working at TMS Huntsville and how she’s helping patients find drug-free depression treatment options.

Meet Leah

Leah is a woman of many talents. Her office at TMS Huntsville is full of happy plants—some that have been adopted from others to get a little extra TLC.

In addition to dabbling in botany, she’s an excellent cook. When she was younger, she wanted to be a chef, and now, she cooks big dinners every night—from Asian-inspired seafood dishes to homemade Italian pasta plates.

She and her husband live in South Huntsville and have two children, two dogs and a cat.

“When I first moved to Huntsville, it was a bit of a culture shock. But I knew I was looking for something different than where I grew up, and I’ve really come to love it here. It’s been a great place to raise my family.”

Leah has worked in the healthcare field for over eight years but never imagined she’d find somewhere like TMS Huntsville. She previously worked in allergy and immunology before pivoting to natural hormone healthcare.

Her journey through holsitic healthcare led her to TMS Huntsville, where she helps patients heal through drug-free depression treatment.

“I enjoy that we stay as holistic as possible and that I am seeing patients make positive changes quickly, which doesn’t always happen in the healthcare field. Working with Dr. Hayden has been wonderful.”

It was a bit intimidating for Leah to transition from working with hormones to understanding the human brain. Fortunately, Dr. Hayden is an excellent teacher and has helped her feel comfortable and confident in her role.

On a day-to-day basis, you can find Leah serving as the main point of contact for patients, marketing TMS to other providers and assisting with drug-free depression treatments.

Wondering how TMS really works? Check out our deep dive into how TMS ‘wakes up’ a depressed brain and changes lives. If you want the short version, TMS stimulates the pre-frontal cortex to activate a depressed brain and improve memory—and can work.

For resistant patients who have failed multiple drug treatments, TMS still has a 70-85% chance of recovery—compared to a 7% rate of effectiveness for depression drugs.

Leah has seen these success stories firsthand:

“Every day I see patients getting better. I’ve seen patients come in who haven’t gone out to eat in years, and they won’t even look you in the eye—they’re not happy or feeling well.

But within just a few weeks, they’ll come in and say ‘I went out to eat with my daughter, and I haven’t done that in three years.’

It’s beautiful to see so many people light up across the board, and it’s motivating to come into work every day knowing that we are changing lives.”

Starting drug-free depression treatment at TMS Huntsville is easier than you think.

If you’ve had two failed drug-depression treatments, TMS is FDA-approved and covered by insurance. It’s likely the best option for you if none of the traditional methods are doing the trick.

It may seem scary at first, but TMS will make you feel at ease.

“The hardest part is reaching out, but once you do it, we will help you through all of it. We want you to know that there are other options than medications with side effects. You are worth getting help, and we want to be here for you.”
