We live the slow and easy life up here in North Alabama (for the most part), and WorldAtlas took notice, as its recently published “Alabama’s 7 Most Laid-Back Towns For 2025” list is dominated by North Alabama towns.

Take a look:

Who’s on the WorldAtlas list?

Four of the seven towns listed on the WorldAtlas list are right here in North Alabama, a list complied to include towns with a slower-moving lifestyle, plenty of outdoor opportunities, a small-town feel and a general lack of hustle-and-bustle.

As the article states, “Whether you want to hike the mountains of Mentone or tour antebellum mansions in Eufaula, these easy-going towns have a way of helping you breathe easy for a while.”

In no particular order, WorldAtlas listed these Alabama towns as the most laid back in the state:

  • Tuscumbia
  • Mentone
  • Scottsboro
  • Guntersville
  • Monroeville
  • Brewton
  • Eufaula

“From lakeside hamlets to hidden towns tucked away in the mountains, the residents in these areas are never in a rush. It is where you can watch thousands of bats fill the sky at dusk in Scottsboro, or dine on an outdoor patio overlooking the water in Monroeville.”
