Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo

The Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo has been a Huntsville tradition for over 40 years. It began as the City of Huntsville Youth Fishing Rodeo, spearheaded by Wally Vess, owner of Buster’s Bait & tackle. Vess had a passion for fishing and for introducing the hobby to kids, and was renamed for Vess after his death in 2004.
This year’s rodeo is this Saturday, June 6.
“The Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo is a valued community tradition and it’s one we are proud to host each year. The event is a great opportunity for kids to get outdoors, enjoy time with family and experience the classic fun of fishing.”
James Gossett, Parks & Recreation Director
The event is open to anglers ages 6-12 and they will have the opportunity to fish a lagoon stocked with more than 700 pounds of catfish, including 19 tagged fish worth $100 each and one specially tagged fish worth $1,000.
Participants are encouraged to bring chairs, fishing equipment and bait to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.
