Warm weather finally is here to stay, and so is outdoor dining. However, Huntsville is rainier than Seattle (yes, really), and it’s common for an outdoor plan to be washed out by a temporary spring or summer downpour.

No worries, though—we’ve rounded up 11 spots where you can enjoy the outdoors with some protection from the elements. These spots have covered patios, so you don’t have to worry about a summer storm ruining the fun. Here’s our list, in no particular order…

1. Chuy’s

While Chuy’s is a chain restaurant, it’s truly one of my favorites for dependable Tex-Mex. Plus, their covered patio is comfortable nearly year round, with fans during the summer and heaters during cooler months. Make sure to order an extra serving of creamy jalapeno dip for me.

2. Purveyor

Purveyor’s moody atmosphere makes it a perfect dinner spot. But, you don’t have to choose between enjoying the outdoors and having an unforgettable meal—just ask to be seated outdoors and enjoy the excitement of downtown Huntsville.

3. Super Chix

This new chicken spot off Memorial Parkway is a perfect place to grab a quick bite. I want to try the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich next time I go—what are you trying?

4. Moe’s Original BBQ – Town Madison

I was finally able to visit the new Moe’s Original BBQ location in Town Madison this past weekend. One unique thing about their patio? The bar actually wraps around outside, so you can sit at the bar and enjoy the nice weather at the same time.

5. Grille on Main

Grille on Main is one of my favorite local restaurants. You don’t have to worry about summer showers here, since the patio is completely shielded from the elements. (PS: For a shareable dessert, you can’t go wrong with the Chocolate Trio.)

6. The Nook

In addition to great ambience, The Nook has a beer list with more than 400 selections, plus German food night with a new selection every Tuesday. This week it’s chicken cordon bleu, sauerkraut and potatoes, and next week it’ll be stuffed cabbage with pan-fried potatoes—yum.

7. Main Street Cafe

This former town hall might be the only spot in Madison where you can eat in an old jail cell. Don’t miss the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Main Street—and make sure to grab a slice of lemon icebox pie for me.

8. Cotton Row

One of Huntsville’s favorites for years now, Cotton Row anchors Southside square downtown across from the courthouse. The patio is the perfect spot to enjoy a one-of-a-kind meal while watching all the action downtown.

9. The Boot Pizzeria

At The Boot, you can find a menu full of unique pizza options. Try the shrimp po boy pizza, which comes complete with fried shrimp, arugula, chipotle mayo and fresh mozzarella.

10. Edgar’s Bakery – Providence

Edgar’s is one of my go-to spots for a casual Saturday brunch. I love to grab a pastry and a cheddar biscuit sandwich for the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Plus, their Providence location has a covered patio where you can enjoy the breeze.

11. Pane e Vino

Pizza al fresco? Sign me up. Pane e Vino’s patio overlooks Big Spring Park and is the perfect spot to enjoy some delicious Italian food before taking a stroll around the park or the Huntsville Museum of Art.
