As we close out of Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting some of Huntsville’s women-owned businesses– highlighting their stories and the impact they’re making in our community. Continue reading to discover and support these local women.

Restaurants

1. Good Company Cafe

Angela Ozbolt, owner of Good Company Cafe, is a native of the Huntsville area and a proud recipient of the 2019 WON Rocket Chef award. Good Company Cafe offers breakfast, brunch and lunch and is on its way to a second Five Points Location later this year!

2. Piper and Leaf

Piper and Leaf, a refreshing Huntsville staple, is a family-owned tea company made famous for their delicious teas served in iconic mason jar glasses. Piper and Leaf is owned by sisters, Brigitte Christopher and MaryClaire Thomas, that helped turn a family dream into a multi-store business.

3. Domaine South

Kristian Denis opened Domaine South, our team’s favorite downtown lunch spot, as a reflection of the Southern hospitality that surrounded her. Alongside a menu of artisan cheeses and boutique wines from around the world, Denis also sells art, jewelry and more made by local artists.

5. The Moon Bakeshop

Madeline Watkins opened The Moon Bakeshop opened in 2019 with a “small batch from scratch” mentality, that quickly made the Moon a big name in town. We talked with Madeline about her shop a while back—you can check that out here!

4. The Wine Cellar

This long-running family-owned Huntsville wine shop is currently led by Brandi Edmonds, marking three generations of Huntsville women in her family leading The Wine Cellar. Edmonds and her team offer wine by the glass or bottle, as well as an extensive calendar of events, like tastings and live music.

2. Mason Dixon Bakery & Bistro

Dr. Ashley Ramirez, founder of Mason Dixon Bakery & Bistro, started The Bakery in 2013, creating the first gluten-free bakery in Alabama. Ramirez also gave a TED Talk about her story and how she started this business.

3. Nitro Tales

Owner Alka Chain came up with the idea of Nitro Tales after visiting over more than 50 countries. She decided to take her experiences and create a luxury bar with many international flavors for those willing to relax and catch up. Her menu is comprised of Japanese tapas that feature global ingredients.

4. Stella’s Elixir Lounge

The owner, Angela Panzica, has more than 15 years of experience leading different creative teams. She took this experience into the creation of Stella’s, which opened in 2019. Panzica has been recognized by the American Advertising Federation for numerous awards in design and branding.

1. Blue Apple Books

Robin Dauma, retired teacher and Blue Apple Books owner, has called Huntsville home for 29 years. She opened her store in late 2024, hoping to create a space for groups to gather and share their knowledge.

2. Southern Kitchen and Home

Tonya Ross opened Southern Kitchen and Home as a place to celebrate Southern traditions, cuisines, and home life. The shop—recently relocated to Stovehouse’s Gaslight Alley—is proud to feature an array of local retail items and foods in a curated shopping environment.

3. Huntsvillustrated

Huntsvillustrated, owned by Hadley and Bethany, is a local press that designs and prints Huntsville themed shirts in a Lowe Mill Studio. The duo releases a series of ever-funny shirts, including ones featuring Huntsville icons Eggbeater Jesus, Miss Baker and the Lowe Mill bats.

4. The Snail on the Wall

The Snail on the Wall is an independent bookstore in Huntsville owned by Lady Smith and Christina Tabereaux. The storefront opened in 2024, and it has since provided the community with a wonderfully curated selection of books and snail-themed merchandise.

5. Yala Avenue

Yala Avenue, owned and creatively directed by Suzanna Richardson, is a celebration of the owner’s Nepalese heritage. The store, that sells jewelry, apparel, home decor and artisan paper products, is named after the historic fine art and craft-based city of Patan, known indigenously as “Yala.”

7. Pizzelle’s Confections

Michelle Novosel and Caitlin Lyon are the proud owners of Pizzelle’s Confections. Pizzelle’s has gained a lot of success, including being named #1 in USA Today’s “Best chocolate shop in the U.S.” in 2024 and the Huntsville Madison County Chamber 2023 Small Business Award.

8. Noëlla’s Flowers

Erica Hardesty, founder and owner, served as a social worker for three years when she created Make It Matter: The Collective, a nonprofit helping teens exit the child welfare system. A portion of Noëlla’s Flowers goes directly toward the nonprofit.

9. University Pickers

University Pickers, located in Huntsville’s Merrimack District, is a vibrant local marketplace featuring over 150 unique vendors. Owned by sisters Tricia Gleason and Cindi Pope, the shop has earned impressive recognition, including the title of “Best of Huntsville Antique Mall” in 2023, along with several other notable awards.
