Huntsville’s growth has necessitated the addition of new housing units throughout the metro. Last week, the Huntsville Planning Commission approved a development that would add 1,800 more housing units to the city.

The measure involves rezoning approximately 500 acres north of Bob Wade Lane and east of Mount Lebanon Road for a development known as Harris Farms.

The Harris Farms development, if approved by the Huntsville City Council, will be near North Village Town Center, a $240 million retail project currently under development.

The Harris Farms development is expected to include single-family homes, townhomes, apartments and a 55-plus active adult community.

In addition to housing units, the residential community is expected to include:

  • Swimming pools
  • Pickleball courts
  • Tennis courts
  • Community gym
  • 7,300 feet of trails
  • 140,000 feet of sidewalks

The entire project is expected to take more than 10 years to complete. The Huntsville City Council has not set a date for a vote on this project.
