All about the greenways

The Huntsville greenways are a triumph of infrastructure. Providing paved and lit paths for citizens to use has proved to be a worthwhile endeavor, as more pathways have been placed connecting residents to necessary locations in Huntsville:

“Huntsville’s greenway network is something we have intentionally championed and advanced over the past 20 years.

These trails are more than recreational amenities – they are transportation corridors and connect neighborhoods to schools, jobs, shopping and parks. More importantly, they give our residents and visitors safe, multimodal options for how they move throughout our city.”

This brand-new path in South Huntsville will connect the busy thoroughfares of Four Mile Post + Weatherly Road by adding a 12-foot-wide route connecting schools, shopping + the Aldridge Creek greenway.

The route will also add safety features to the existing route at nearby Blevins Gap with improved crosswalks, pedestrian signals + more.

The Miller Branch Greenway is entering Phase II of development, extending the existing trail in west Huntsville from Swancott Road toward Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. Once completed, the project in west Huntsville will connect several walking trails from Triana, Wheeler Wildlife Refuge + the Martin Road area.

The ultimate goal of these improvements is to create a trail of interconnected greenways throughout Huntsville, ultimately offering 30 miles of walking paths upon completion.
