The Athens-Limestone Hospital just got an upgrade — a new 25-bed patient care unit is now open, which expands hospital capacity, helps patients be seen faster and gives doctors a dedicated spot for short-term observation.

Limestone County is statistically the fastest growing county in Alabama, and this expansion will help ensure the hospital can keep up with the county’s population growth.

“Limestone County continues to experience tremendous growth, and Huntsville Hospital Health System is committed to ensuring Athens-Limestone Hospital has the resources and capacity to grow with the community.”

Sam Dean, Executive Vice President of Regional Hospital Operations for HH Health

The new Acute Observation and Infusion Unit has many functions, but its main purpose is to admit, monitor and care for patients that do not require inpatient hospital admission.

In addition, it will provide outpatient intravenous (IV) infusion services, which gives patients a dedicated location for infusion therapy.

“This is about much more than adding beds. It is about making sure we continue to have the right care, in the right setting, for the people who depend on us… This investment allows us to increase capacity, improve access and patient flow and continue providing exceptional care for our neighbors right here at home.”

Traci Collins, President of Athens-Limestone Hospital
