Looking for a fun creative outlet and way to meet people in Huntsville? Pick up a pottery class!

It may seem intimidating, but I recently tried a beginner wheel thrown ceramics course with zero experience—it’s a fun way to exercise your creativity, unwind and make new friends.

I scouted out the local ceramics studios where you can throw down and try pottery.

1. Sullivan Pottery

Sullivan Street Pottery is a great spot for ceramics beginners and veterans alike. (Elizabeth Hobbs / Hville Blast)

Sullivan Street Pottery is a large ceramics studio that has open seats for classes starting next week.

This is a great spot for starting from scratch as a potter or building on your existing ceramics skills. The classes are very relaxed and led by an experienced staff member. Learn at your own pace over 6 or 12 weeks.

A group of local artists opened the studio in Madison in 2011 and have since grown into their current 8,000 square foot community studio in Huntsville. You can also shop finished works in their storefront.

2. The Vessel

The Vessel opened in Stovehouse in 2022 and has been a hub for ceramics ever since. Classes are small and structured—build community while learning specific skills every week.

Keep your eye out for their next round of courses opening in mid October. Or, give it a spin with a one-time class.

In the storefront, the shelves are lined with beautiful hand-made pieces ready to take home.

3. Color Me Mine

Skip to the final product and paint pottery at Color Me Mine (Ta’Niyah Thomas / Hville Blast)

For a more light-hearted, immediate-satisfaction pottery experience, paint pottery at Color Me Mine.

Choose from a variety of pre-made ceramic pieces and add your personal touch.
