If you’re anything like me, today is a day that makes you hungry.
That’s because on March 14—3.14—we celebrate Pi Day. While the so-called holiday actually refers to pi in the mathematical sense, I prefer to take a bit of a sweeter perspective. That’s why we’ve rounded up five Huntsville pi(e)s you need to try. Read all about them below.
1. The Moon Bakeshop
The Moon Bakeshop consistently has one of the most beautiful pastry cases in town. There, you’ll find expertly decorated cakes, pastries and seasonal pies. Head into the store to see what’s available fresh, or order ahead and choose from one of these delicious flavors:
- Brownie Chess
- Buttermilk Blueberry Chess
- Chocolate Pecan
- Key Lime
- Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate
- Salted Maple
- Southern Pecan
My pick? I’m going with the Buttermilk Blueberry Chess. There’s nothing like a fresh berry pie when the weather starts warming up.
2. Mason Dixon Bakery & Bistro
Mason Dixon is Huntsville’s own 100% gluten free bakery. If you’ve got celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, you know the frustration of having to miss out on some of your favorite treats—here, you don’t have to.
My pick? Nothing really beats a good apple pie.
3. JJ’s Treats
Pies are a specialty at JJ’s Treats. Order online or in-store, or hire JJ’s to cater your next event. In addition to delicious baked goods and espresso, JJ’s has a sno-cone trailer that will make your next party a hit.
My pick? I’ve got my eye on JJ’s lemon meringue pie.
4. The Dessert Fork
The Dessert Fork is one of Madison’s best spots for delicious and beautiful desserts. You’ll find the following pie options available year-round:
- Coconut Cream
- Chocolate Cream
- Key Lime
- Peanut Butter
My pick? The peanut butter pie, complete with a peanut butter cup topping, looks particularly tempting.
5. Main Street Cafe
Another gem, tucked into Madison’s 1950s-era town hall, Main Street Cafe serves up a menu full of Southern favorites. They even serve sugar-free versions of some of the classics, like coconut cream and chocolate cream pie.
My pick? I’m going for the lemon ice box pie.
