Every once in a while you’ll confront the scenario of having to eat late at night. Whether you got caught up, had an emergency situation or simply wanted to avoid crowds, late-night dining appeals to you in some way.

Instead of driving till you see an illuminated ‘open’ sign, here are 5 spots to eat (and drink) that are open late.*

*Criteria was places open past 9:00 on weekdays.

West End Grill

West End is a great spot for families, singles, couples, etc. Their flat screens run all day, and they’re at the top of the list for being open latest most consistently. That is, till midnight.

Phat Sammy’s

What are you ordering at Phat Sammy’s? (Phat Sammy’s on Facebook)

Phat Sammy’s is an Eastern-Asian inspired eatery known for their eccentric menu and cocktails. If you take a look at their menu, you’ll notice corn ribs, kimchi gyoza and crab fat rice. Good thing they’re open late, because you’ll need time to try all you want.

City Café Diner

Another Huntsville favorite, City Café Diner has one of the biggest menus I’ve ever seen and from the 5+ times I’ve been there, I’ve never been disappointed. Their menu ranges from gyros and pasta to French toast, fish, wings, etc.

Additionally they probably have the most expansive hours on the list. Don’t worry; they serve breakfast all day which is a great complement to being open late.

Where: 2003 Drake Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35801

When: Sunday – Thursday: 6AM – 10PM; Friday – Saturday: 6AM – 12AM

Commerce Kitchen

Another site known for its eclectic menu, Commerce is a great place to go for more upscale dining. Try the street tacos, braised Angus short rib ravioli or the coffee crusted New York strip.

Where: 300 Franklin St SE, Huntsville 35801

When: Monday – Friday: 11AM-10PM; Saturday: 10:30AM – 3PM; 4PM – 10PM; Sunday: 10:30AM-3PM; 4PM – 8PM

Old Black Bear

Old Black Bear is a local favorite and has a wide selection of beer and juicy burgers. You’re not going to want to miss this place. One of the nice things about being open late is enough time passes from when people usually eat dinner so that you can eat again. It’s okay, we won’t judge.

Courtesy, courtesy

As a disclaimer, just because a place is open late doesn’t mean if they close at 10:00, you should sit down at 9:45 because “you’ll be done soon enough.”

It’s a good idea to plan on getting there at least an hour before they close for amble time to order, eat and enjoy the background noise of the kitchen crew cleaning behind the scenes.
