If you need an excuse to enjoy a tasty treat, July 19 is recognized as National Ice Cream Day—and yes, it’s a real thing, created by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan back in 1984!

Do not let the name fool you, milkshakes are not the only thing on the menu here! They also serve delicious sundaes, floats and classic cones + cups, all coming in many different flavors.

Fizzy Flapper

Another retro-themed ice cream shop, the Fizzy Flapper opened earlier this year and has some delicious desserts! We recommend their Moon Pie Split, which is banana vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate & banana moon pies, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry!

Handel’s

This national chain has two locations in Huntsville, and they are recognized for using the highest-quality ingredients and the variety of flavors they offer. We reccomend having your ice cream served in a waffle bowl—it’s an easy and delicious way to upgrade your sweet treat!

Big Spoon Creamery

What started as a pop-up shop in a driveway has blossomed into 3 brick-and-mortar locations around Alabama, with the Huntsville store opening in 2023. Big Spoon Creamery specializes in handcrafted, local and seasonal small-batch ice cream.

Marble Slab Creamery is another national chain that specializes in serving fresh, housemade ice cream. They offer shakes, cakes, cups, cones—just about anything you could want!

Three Scoops

Located just outside of Huntsville, Three Scoops was founded on the idea of bringing more ice cream flavors to Huntsville, and has certainly accomplished that! They serve 33 different delicious flavors, including Georgia Peach, Strawberry Cheesecake and Butter Scotch Bomb.
