5 exciting running events to check out this month

Toyota Field will host the 9/11 Heroes Run 5K this month. (Hville Blast)

With fall just about to start, Huntsville will thankfully be cooling down for some incredible running events this month.

Whether you’re a new or experienced runner, you don’t want to miss out on these running events. This guide provides all the details you need to know about each race:

1. Boston or Bust Marathon

  • When: Sunday, September 8 at 6AM
  • Where: 293 Ditto Landing Rd SE, Huntsville, AL 35803
  • Details: This running event is one of the final qualifiers for the Boston Marathon. You can run either a marathon or a half-marathon, and each runner will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal. Also, there will be a party for all runners after the race that will include food, drinks, and music!

2. Space Race

  • When: Thursday, September 12 at 7PM
  • Where: The BizHubble at Big Spring International Park
  • Details: This downtown running event is designed for all skill levels, and especially for Huntsville companies to connect through running. Live music and family friendly activities will be going on throughout the event!

3. Glow in the Park 5K

  • When: Saturday, September 14 at 7PM
  • Where: John Hunt Cross Country Park
  • Details: All runners will receive a t-shirt, light up sunglasses, and glow sticks to light up the night sky! Taking place at John Hunt Cross Country Park, the course is well-kept and designed for fast times. Additionally, all proceeds from the event will fund the Redstone Army’s travels to the Army 10 miler in Washington D.C.

4. 9/11 Heroes Run

  • When: Sunday, September 15 at 9AM
  • Where: Toyota Field
  • Details: The Travis Manion Foundation started this running event to internationally recognize and honor the heroes of September 11th. Runners can get a t-shirt or a ruck patch as a part of signing up, and top finishers will receive a medal. There is also a 1-mile run/walk option for casual participants.

5. Conquer the Cave 5K

  • When: Sunday, September 22 with waves starting at 11:30AM
  • Where: Cathedral Caverns State Park
  • Details: This running event starts in a beautiful valley and transitions to the inside of the cave. Runners will receive a glow stick once inside the cave, which will shine with decorative lighting throughout the race. Runners can participate in one of five waves with each start time separated by 30 minutes. Finally, all runners will receive a race shirt and a finisher medal.
