Alabama’s first statewide AI accelerator to launch in Decatur

The city of Decatur will become home to Alabama’s first statewide artificial intelligence accelerator, aimed at accelerating current AI-based businesses and helping entrepreneurs launch new AI businesses.

Operated by the E-Center in partnership with Innovate Alabama (a public-private partnership focused on small businesses, technology and innovation), the Alabama AI Accelerator looks to provide a “a proactive approach” to artificial intelligence.

What to know about the Alabama AI Accelerator

The accelerator is expected to serve as a statewide resource to connect entrepreneurs from across Alabama to training, mentorship, technology resources and business support. At the same time, officials say the AI Accelerator will “continue its mission of accelerating the growth and development of AI-focused companies.”

State and local leaders say the Alabama AI Accelerator will be a huge win for Decatur and the state overall. Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) said the new accelerator “will pay long-term dividends across the state.”

With the prevalence of AI in so many facets of business, local government and business leaders say the partnership and involvement with E-Center and Innovate Alabama is a strong investment in Alabama business.

The next phase of the initiative will include a nationwide search for a site director who will lead the accelerator and help develop its statewide programming and entrepreneurial strategy. The partners will also identify a permanent location in Decatur to house the accelerator.
