Even though it’s chilly right now, we think it’s never a wrong time to celebrate ice cream—especially when it’s new ice cream we’re celebrating.

Birmingham-based ice cream shop Big Spoon Creamery is opening its third location soon, and what better place for that location than downtown Huntsville?

Here’s all the details on Big Spoon Huntsville.

It’s coming this summer to Jefferson Street

According to their social media announcement, Big Spoon will be coming to Huntsville this summer—just in time for those hot Huntsville days we’ve got in store.

They’ll be moving into the old Cookie Dough Magic location, which closed last October. So, you’ll be able to grab a killer sandwich at MELT and then stop next door to grab some drool-worthy ice cream—or reverse that order, we won’t judge.

It was founded by Birmingham culinary experts

So, what exactly is Big Spoon Creamery? We’re glad you asked.

It’s a small business founded by husband-and-wife team Geri-Martha and Ryan O’Hara. Both of them have plenty of culinary experience, working in restaurants like Bottega, an upscale Birmingham restaurant.

What started in 2014 as an old-school ice cream trike has become an ever-growing ice cream shop with two Birmingham-area locations (and another location soon!). Needless to say, folks love Big Spoon ice cream.

We have lots to look forward to at Big Spoon Huntsville

Why? Because it’s small-batch ice cream made with local ingredients, and they’re always coming up with seasonal flavors and unique twists on classic favorites.

They’ve got classic ice cream flavors like cookies n’ cream, rocky ridge road and chocolate chip cookie dough. But you’ve got to keep an eye out for seasonal flavors such as Georgia Nell’s Pecan Pie, Goat Cheese Caramel Apple Pie and Peach Buttermilk (to name a few from last year).

They serve up their creative flavors in fun packages, too, with ice cream cakes, sundaes, sandwiches and even ice cream tacos.

Oh, and did we mention that they also have vegan ice cream? Yep, everyone’s able to find a treat here.
