We asked and you answered—again. It first started with our 5 Huntsville hidden gems: restaurant edition, but our audience had so much more to offer. So this time, we tapped into your go-to spots for a cold pint—here are the breweries in Huntsville that locals say you have to check out.

1. Innerspace Brewery Company

If you’re really wanting to embrace the Rocket City brewery scene, you have to check out this space (pun intended)! Innerspace is an independently operated small-batch brewery that is pet-friendly. Enjoy their specialized farmhouse ales and saisons on the Biergarten-style patio.

2. Mad Malts Brewing

Mad Malts Brewing is a true hidden gem in Huntsville’s craft beer scene. Known for its laid-back atmosphere and eclectic beer selection, this brewery offers a range of styles from rich stouts to refreshing IPAs. Live music and food trucks often complement the experience, making it a perfect spot for a casual evening out.

3. Old Black Bear Brewery

Old Black Bear Brewing Company has become a cornerstone of North Alabama’s craft beer scene, offering a blend of quality brews and inviting atmospheres at both their Madison and Athens locations.​

The Madison location, nestled in the heart of downtown, features a spacious taproom, full-service restaurant, and a vibrant outdoor space. You can enjoy a range of signature beers like the Cave City Lager and Milepost 652 ESB, alongside a menu of elevated pub fare. The venue also hosts live music and community events, making it a great spot to hang out with family and friends.

The newer Downtown Athens location features a blend of mid-century modern and rustic decor, with a large U-shaped bar in the front. Make sure to get one of their infamous burgers to pair with your pint.

4. The Brewers Cooperative (Co/Op)

Located within Stovehouse, The Brewers Cooperative offers a unique collaborative brewing experience. Established by five founding breweries, Co-Op offers a community and experience that’s welcoming.

Featuring 40 beers on tap, including selections from local breweries, it’s a haven for craft beer enthusiasts. The industrial-chic space also serves up southern comfort food favorites, like Gouda Mac with Braised Pork and Nashville Hot Wings. Pro Tip: Check out their pinball and pool!

5. Back Forty Beer Company

Back Forty Beer Company brings innovation to Huntsville’s brewing scene. With over 50 different beers introduced annually and up to 20 on tap at any given time, there’s always something new to explore. The brewery’s industrial, urban space features an open kitchen serving gourmet pub food, including the Back 40 Cheeseburger and Neapolitan-inspired pizzas. Don’t miss the impressive space-themed mural by local artist Shane Boteler.​

If you’re a big soccer fan, John Hunt Park (home of HCFC games) is just within walking distance!
