Reading time: 4 minutes
We asked and you answered. It started with a simple sign that read “Leave a Hidden Gem,” colorful Post-It notes, and four small glass-paned windows of our studio in Lowe Mill. It ended with a multicolored locally-curated masterpiece of our audience’s favorite Huntsville hidden gems.
The recommendations were endless, ranging from favorite restaurants to bars to favorite tattoo shops and antique stores. Don’t worry—we sorted through the numerous options to these five hidden gems.
Your hidden gems
1. Bandito Burrito
I remember when I moved to Huntsville people told me the need-to-know basics. Where to find the closest Walmart, how to avoid traffic, what Bandito Burrito was, and how it would change my life. One of my coworkers told me there was nothing like it.
“It’s a unique place in Huntsville where you’ll see a lawyer, bikers, construction workers, businessmen, nurses, and kids all eating at lunch time. It’s the melting pot of Huntsville. The green bean burrito is a classic item.”

Naturally, I had to ask the regulars to share their secrets. One regular, Dave Long, has been in the restaurant industry for 25 years and had great praise for Southern Egg Cafe.
“It’s hard to pick a favorite when they get everything right. My father and I come here at least 5 days a week. One time, we hit a 28 day streak.”
