Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to travel to Tuscaloosa, Auburn or Birmingham to catch an exciting sporting event in Alabama.
Huntsville may not be known as a sports town, but there are plenty of entertaining events coming up this fall that will scratch that primitive itch of wanting to watch athletes compete at the highest level.

Alabama A&M

Alabama A&M is the only four-year university in Huntsville with a permanent football team — check out their home games👇

Alabama A&M + Oakwood University

Alabama A&M and Oakwood University both have women’s and men’s basketball teams, which will also start their seasons in the late fall.
Unfortunately, official schedules have not been released by any of the programs — however, you can keep an eye on the Alabama A&M and Oakwood websites see their schedule once each university makes it public👇

Auburn + War Dawgs

Auburn Basketball:
The Auburn University men’s basketball team will be facing off against Middle Tennessee in the Rocket City Classic on December 15. The game will take place at 12PM in the VBC Propst Arena, and tickets can be purchased here.
War Dawgs:
The North Alabama War Dawgs, our local semi-pro basketball team, kick off their 2026-27 season on October 24! Most games are played at the James Clemens High School gymnasium, and you can purchase tickets here or buy them at the door.
Hockey
Huntsville havoc

The fan-favorite Huntsville Havoc play several games at Propst Arena this fall, with their home opener kicking off the 2026-27 season on October 23. Check out their full home schedule for this fall👇

Rocket City Iron Cup
You’ve heard of the Iron Bowl, but have you heard of the Iron Cup?
Alabama’s hockey team takes on Auburn at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center on Friday, November 20. This is the 28th all-time matchup between these teams. Puck drop is at 7PM, and you can purchase tickets here!
Miscellaneous
UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships
The UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships will be taking place in Huntsville on September 4 through September 7, and this is a sporting event you won’t want to miss.
The competition will showcase Individual Time Trial and Road Race for all Para Cycling divisions and Mixed H1-5 Team Relay, and take place in Research Park.
ACCC Soccer Championships
The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) will be having its soccer championships on October 24 at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex.

GSC Soccer Championships
The Gulf South Conference will be hosting its soccer championships at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex from November 5 through November 8.

AVCA Beach Volleyball Championships
If you love volleyball, this event is for you!
From November 6 to 8, some of the nation’s top talent will be competing in a 64-pair tournament right here in Huntsville. The event will take place at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex, and include both men’s and women’s teams.
