New Church of the Highlands campus in Florence among North Alabama building permits

If the 13 new building permits issued in Alabama this past week for construction projects exceeding $1 million, five of them are for projects in North Alabama.

The priciest of these new building permits is for the construction of a new Church of the Highlands campus in Florence — a project that will cost nearly $10 million.

Church of the Highlands in Florence

Ground was broken in the fall on a new Florence campus for the Alabama mega-church Church of the Highlands. The church, which started in Birmingham has more than two dozen campuses throughout the state.

The new Florence campus will be at 751 County Road 46 in Florence. Here are some more details on this project:

The building permit is for $9.1 million
The facility includes a 1,100-seat sanctuary.
Johnsonkreis Construction, which has build multiple Church of the Highlands facilities, is the lead contractor.
Church of the Highlands has opened 28 campuses in Alabama since the church was started in 2001.
Construction for the new Florence campus is projected to be complete by the end of 2024.
