City of Madison passes $141M budget for 2027 fiscal year

The City of Madison passed its budget for the 2027 fiscal year—which begins October 1—which includes funds for infrastructure, local schools and major road projects.

The $141 million budget also includes reserve funds to cover a $4.7 million revenue shortfall from 2026.

Madison passes its $141 million budget

The 2027 budget is slightly higher than last year’s $135 million budget, which also included a $12 million revenue shortfall. Highlights of the new budget include:

• A new aquatic center and a brand-new park in western Madison
• 20 new vehicles for the police department
• Funding for five new police officer positions (four of which will be SROs)
• A 2% pay increase for all city staff to combat inflation
• The development of Fire Station 5 and a new ladder bay at Fire Station 4
• Road widening projects on Wall Triana Highway, Segers Road and Maecille Drive
• Upgrades to Madison Boulevard, Slaughter Road, Eastview Drive and the intersection at the Powell Road and Burgreen Road traffic signal
• Additions to the Town Madison greenway
