I remember when I was considering where to attend college, wishing I could get a sneak peek into what life would actually be like at prospective universities.

If you’ve been thinking about the University of North Alabama, this one’s for you. We got to chat with Huntsville native Ellie Harris on what a typical day looks like for her—read on for all the details.

Nannying job + education classes

Ellie is a sophmore Education student at UNA, and she loves the flexibility her class schedule offers. On Mondays and Wednesdays, she nannies for a local family from 8-11AM.

Typically, she’ll get up around 7AM, get ready and head over to nanny an 11-month-old baby (who is absolutely adorable according to Ellie). Then, she attends her education classes at noon.

Lunch + studying at the UNA library

After class, Ellie goes back to her apartment on campus to do laundry and fix herself a turkey sandwich. She’s a big fan of naps, and sometimes she’ll catch up on some rest while she’s there.

Next, she’ll head to her favorite spot on campus—the library. During her freshman year, her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, required her to gain a certain number of library study hours.

During this process, she fell in love with the library. She enjoys studying on the first floor, where she can sit in the comfy chairs and grab a snack or coffee from the library’s amazing cafe.

After studying for a couple of hours, it’s time to fuel up. Ellie loves grabbing a coffee at Rivertown in downtown Florence with her best friend Briley.

One of her favorite parts about UNA is its proximity to downtown Florence. Within walking distance of the university, students can find five or six unique coffee shops and incredible local restaurants and stores.

Next, she’ll head over to Zeta’s weekly chapter—a weekly sorority meeting. Ellie has absolutely loved particiapting in Greek life at UNA.

“Greek life is a significant aspect of the university experience, and it’s one of the main reasons why I’m so happy at UNA. I’ve been able to really get involved and put myself out there.”

Ellie Harris

UNA’s vibrant Greek life is a great way for new students to make friends and find community on campus.

Why Ellie loves UNA

You can find your home at UNA too. (Lacey Spear / Hville Blast)

As a Huntsville native, Ellie has appreciated UNA’s proximity to her hometown—she’s close enough to go home on the weekends but far enough away to get the real college experience.

“Attending UNA was the best decision I could have ever made. It’s so close to home, and I love the tight-knit community and how I can personally get to know my professors. It’s so nice to have only 20 students in my classes rather than 300.”

Ellie Harris
