Spring is a fabulous time to be outdoors in North Alabama. And with all of the breathtaking scenery here in the area, hiking at one of the multiple nature preserves here is a perfect way to enjoy nature in the springtime.

Here are some awesome hikes you can take with an experienced guide along some of our nature preserves here in North Alabama:

Hike at Rainbow Mountain Nature Preserve – April 13

Rainbow Mountain Nature Preserve, “hidden” just a short distance from downtown Madison, is a favorite hiking destination for folks in the area looking to get on the trail while staying close to home.

Participants during this hike will travel along one of the most popular trails on the preserve, Rainbow Loop Trail. This hike’s route will cover nearly the entirety of that trail with the exception of a short detour to Balance Rock Trail.

Earth Day Hike at Blevins Gap – April 20

Celebrate Earth Day by taking one of the best guided hikes of the year through Blevins Gap South! Blevins Gap Nature Preserve provides some of the best views of Huntsville in the area.

The hike will start at Blevins Gap Trailhead and head south on Bill and Marion Certain Trail.

Weekend Wanderings at Monte Sano — April 28

Join Land Trust of North Alabama’s Tim Gels who leads some of the best guided hikes around. This one heads down Alms House Trail, spending some time looking for fossils at the power line cut before making our way down to Fagan Creek.

You’ll stay there for a bit, before making your way back to the trailhead. Depending on the time, you’ll either go back up Alms House Trail or take Old Railroad Bed Trail to Tollgate Trail.

These guided hikes are free, but donations to the Land Trust of North Alabama are appreciated!
