21st Annual Cigar Box Guitar Festival
June 1 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

The World’s Longest-Running Cigar Box Guitar Festival returns for its 21st year in Huntsville to raise money for music education. The Grand Finale of the Festival will be Sunday, June 1 at The Orion Amphitheater (701 Amphitheater Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35806), presented by Whitney Stringer, Redstone Realty Solutions. Kick off your Sunday with free activities throughout The Orion grounds from 11:00am-2:00pm. There will be kids activities, cigar box guitar jam sessions and meet-ups, local vendors and food trucks. Because cigar box guitars are traditionally made out of cigar boxes and other discarded materials, there will children’s hands-on activities focusing on a recycled theme as well as music focusing on the environment by Miss Calliope. Microwave Dave will use his musical genius to teach kids about the history of the blues in the interactive Junior Junk Jam where kids will get to play recycled instruments they’ve made. The Cigar Box Serenaders of New Orleans will round out the line-up with funk, soul and jazz all on 100% handmade, upcycled instruments including cigar box guitars, an upright bass made from a dresser drawer and a drum kit made from discards, including a plastic tub as a kick drum and trash can lid as a cymbal. All activities during the day are free.
All of the proceeds from this year’s event benefit the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to the integration of music with learning.
