Unlock the secrets of sustainable gardening with our Composting Workshop! Dive into the world of composting and discover how simple it is to nurture your plants with nutrient-rich soil.
Join us to learn the ins and outs of creating and maintaining compost bins right in your backyard. Explore the magic of turning vegetable and yard scraps into “black gold” compost, perfect for fueling your garden’s growth.
In this class, we’ll guide you through the process of setting up a 3-bin compost system and explore various other options tailored to your space. Get started on your composting journey and reap the benefits of healthier, happier plants in your yard and garden.

This class will take place in-person at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. The location will be shared through email to registrants prior to the date of the class.

Kathy Gardner

Instructor Bio: 
Kathy A. Gardner was certified as a Master Gardener in 2016 and is an active member of the Master Gardeners of North Alabama (MGNA). On behalf of MGNA, she served as the Volunteer Director of the Compost Demonstration Project (located at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, Master Gardeners’ section) from 2017-2019. She speaks locally about backyard composting, Monarch conservation, and planting for pollinators – a few of her favorite activities. Her residential yard in Madison is a Certified Monarch Way Station by Monarch Watch, a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, a Certified Butterfly Garden by the North American Butterfly Association and is registered with Pollinator Partnership’s Million Pollinator Garden Challenge.

Kathy was recognized in 2021 by Madison’s
Rotary Club for her efforts with the Butterfly Habitat at Dublin Park. She
works for the U.S. Army on Redstone Arsenal as an Executive Officer. She is an
Army Veteran and a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She
has been married to Richard Gardner for nearly 38 years.
