Costumed or Themed Figure Drawing Sessions: INSTRUCTED or NON-Instructed

This class welcomes artists of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. It is designed to help you build strong foundational skills while offering individualized critiques to support your artistic growth. Through a combination of guided practice, live demonstrations, and personalized feedback, you’ll gain the confidence to capture the likeness of a live model.

What Students Will Learn:

  • How to accurately measure and establish proportions when working from life.
  • Techniques for creating form and volume using values and light.
  • Personalized guidance tailored to help you achieve your specific artistic goals.

Flexible Scheduling

    • Choose the days that work with your schedule and whether you’d like instructed or not instructed.
    • Instructed Sessions are every other Wednesday, Wednesday’s in between are non-instructed for your practice.
    • We’ll have 1 model per month to enable you to render a fully complete image or get lots of practice.
    • Fees include the model’s fee.
      • Dates are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances and you’ll be provided a class credit in the event there is a need to cancel the class. 
      • In the event that no one has signed up the morning of the event, the event will be canceled.

For Instructed Agenda, Ann typically follows:

  • 30 minute demo
  • Sketch/Paint
  • Critique time

For Non-Instructed  Agenda the staff will:

  • Set the timer for 3, 90 second minute gesture drawings to warm up.
  • Set the timer for long pose for 5 -7 minutes at a time to give the model breaks.

What To Bring to the Portrait/Figure Drawing Session:

  • What to Bring: Your preferred art supplies.  Ann will be working in charcoal and may move to oils.
  • What’s Provided: Live clothed model with themed setups, easels, tables
  • Cost:  $25 or $56, depending on the instructed or non-instructed option.  Includes the model and instructor fee.  (Tipping is encouraged)
  • Who’s Welcome: Artists of all skill levels and mediums

Instructor Biography

Costumed or Themed Figure Drawing Sessions: INSTRUCTED or NON-Instructed

Ann Moeller Steverson is an oil painter known for her mood-filled figures, portraits, and still life’s. Her contemporary work bridges classical beauty with the modern painting practices of today. She has been awarded the honor of the Bold Brush Award, a distinction an artist may achieve only once in their lifetime. Ann’s work has recently been selected as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center, been featured in several Oil Painters of America exhibits. She has been awarded by the National Acrylic & Oil Painters Society and Portrait Society of America.

In 2015, Ann partnered with two other artists to help co-found Protege Atelier, where she paints, teaches, and assists in bringing master artist workshops to Huntsville. Steverson is also the inventor and founder of Venus Copper Panels, now known as Artefex Copper Panels, the first CCM (copper composite material) artist panel.

A native of Madison, Alabama, Ann began painting in oils at the University of Montevallo in 1999. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, completing a B.A. with a Fine Arts Concentration. Ann then acquired a Master of Art Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama.

Ann exhibits her work nationally and internationally and soon will have several of her works included in the Peregrine Collection, via which they will be archived on the moon.

Ann Moeller has been painting for over 20 years, and she’s excited to share her knowledge with students of all levels.
