Naturalist Hike
Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve
(Easy / around 1 hour / around 1 mile) Join forest ecologist, Soos Weber, as we amble along the trails to learn more about the ecology of our Land Trust Nature Preserves. This will be a slow-paced hike where we will stop to learn about the forest around us here in North Alabama.
The Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve is a lovely preserve to see the beauty of nature. If you have a pair of binoculars, you might want to bring them – this preserve is a birding destination for those who enjoy our feathered friends.
Location: The Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve, 1263 U.S Hwy 72 East, Huntsville, AL 35811 (Directions: coming from Huntsville, cross Chapman Mountain on Hwy 72 and U-turn at Moores Mill Road. When safe, get into the merge lane on the right (plenty of time). When the silver guard rail ends, be ready to turn right onto the paved entrance. Drive through the gate and down the gravel road to the parking area at the bottom of the hill.)
Note: This preserve has several trailheads – be sure to come to the right one.
