It’s officially spring! As we all head into National Gardening Month in April, it’s time to pick up some fun new gloves and trowels to tackle your planting goals for the season.

To help you grow your gardens and skills, we’ve rounded up a handful of gardening classes in Huntsville, Madison and Decatur.

Read on for upcoming classes in order of when they’re happening and how to attend.

1. Indoor plant class @ God’s Gift Herb Shop in Huntsville

Loving the houseplant trend but doubting your green thumb? Meet and learn from Jaeda of Pimp’s Plant Services, who is teaching a pop-up class this Saturday!

Create a houseplant haven that’s the envy of all your friends with tips about the best care from this Passionate Indoor Master Planter. (Wondering about her biz name? There’s the acronym!)

You’ll discover common issues with indoor house plants and how to solve them—or better yet, avoid them altogether.

🪴🆘 Bonus: Have a concern about one of your plants now? Bring it along for specific advice.

2. Topiary workshops with Ken Selody @ The Cupboard in Decatur

Who did Martha Stewart call last fall when she needed a bunch of beautiful topiaries for her 100th book launch party? Ken Selody of Atlock Farm in Branchburg, N.J.

You can meet and learn from the master topiary artist yourself when he returns to Decatur on April 5 to present two, hands-on topiary workshops at the popular kitchen and gardening shop, The Cupboard.

Selody made his first visit last year after shop owner Ginger Cobl saw his call on social media for great stops for pop-ups along his Great North American Eclipse trip. This year, he’s happily returning and bringing a truck of topiary magic anyone can shop between the two classes.

🌿 Hot Tip: Cobl has secured an Alabama Growers Permit to begin selling her own plants, so be on the lookout for culinary herbs rolling out mid-April.

  • When: Saturday, April 5 | 9AM + 4 PM for classes; pop-up shop between classes
  • Where: The Cupboard, 115 1/2 Johnston St SE, Decatur, AL 35601
  • Cost: $50 per person, pre-paid + nonrefundable
