Gas prices increase again, now back over $4 a gallon nationally

After weeks of a steady decline, gas prices across the country are climbing again including right here in Alabama.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Alabama has gone up 15 cents in the last week. Here are the latest numbers from AAA:
- Regular: $3.63
- Mid-Grade: $4.11
- Premium: $4.51
- Diesel: $4.88
As of July 20, the national average for regular gas is back above $4 for the first time in over a month.
Where are gas prices cheapest in Alabama?
The common theme is gas prices get a little bit cheaper the further north you go. The metro with the lowest average price for a gallon of regular gas is currently Gadsden.
Here are the latest numbers from AAA:
- Anniston-Oxford: $3.58
- Auburn-Opelika: $3.62
- Birmingham: $3.61
- Daphne: $3.67
- Decatur: $3.54
- Dothan: $3.70
- Florence-Muscle Shoals: $3.55
- Gadsden: $3.54
- Huntsville: $3.57
- Mobile: $3.67
- Montgomery: $3.73
- Tuscaloosa: $3.60
While the state has consistently stayed below the national average, our gas prices have still followed the trend of rising costs at the same time as the rest of the country.
