Gas prices on the rise again in Madison County

At this time last year, Americans were lamenting the drastic increases in gas prices, including here in Madison County. Luckily, we have seen a steady decrease in the cost of a gallon of gas — until recently.

According to GasBuddy, the average cost of a gallon of gas in Madison County has gone up over the last couple of weeks. Here’s what we know:

Huntsville gas prices up compared to last month

Let’s get this out of the way first: we are much better off right now in regard to gas prices than we were this time last year. In march of 2022, the average cost for a gallon of gas in Huntsville was nearly $4. Compare that to this week’s average of $3.09 per gallon, and the recent increase doesn’t seem quite as crippling.

And last summer, gas prices in the area soared to more than $4.50 per gallon. That said, according to GasBuddy, a gallon of gas is 6.6 cents per gallon more expensive than it was two weeks ago.

Where to find the cheapest gas in the Huntsville area

GasBuddy says the cheapest gas price in Huntsville by the end of the weekend was $2.86 per gallon (at the Shell station on Wall Triana in Madison), with the most expensive at $3.49 per gallon.
